On the outside the 1490 Swan House looks fresh off a chocolate box; but inside it’s a marvellous mash-up of exposed beams and Farrow & Ball, with a happy clash of contemporary and vintage furniture.

Standing on the original site of Mr Lord’s cricket ground, Dorset Square Hotel’s bold style, good food and sophisticated comfort might just bowl you over… We make note of the seamstress mannequin and wonder if we’ll dress it up later.

The first thing we see when we enter is a huge stag’s head mounted on the wall – we love a bit of taxidermy…and although it’s not quite as plush as some of the places we’ve stayed, it’s certainly a good base for the night.
