Mas De La Serra is a fortified restored farmhouse set in 60 acres of grounds. A truly beautiful place to stay, it is a wilderness retreat and boutique hotel overlooking the coastal range in Spain and rated by The Times in its Top 20 European Mountain Retreats.
Boutique Comfort
The owner, Scottish-born Alasdair Grant, who hails from a whisky-producing family, is a TV producer who has worked on food and travel programmes for over 15 years and has used his experiences to create a stunning retreat. He spent seven years restoring the ‘maisa’ to achieve the perfect balance of old and new and to create a home-away-from-home ambience.
If you crave privacy, there’s plenty of space to do so – lounge on one of its four terraces, by the inifinty pool or in one of its sitting rooms; meander through its vast grounds, or take a walk along the mountain footpaths and marvel at the incredible views. You may even spot a wild ibex.
Inside, there are eight beautiful and individually decorated double bedrooms, all with wonderful views overlooking the almond groves and surrounding mountains, and en-suite tadelakt plastered bathrooms. There is also a hammam, cinema room, cellar and heated infinity pool. Family heirlooms and contemporary light and furniture fill the house, along with hints of the owner’s Scottish heritage and a unique collection of Alasdair’s family whiskies in the bar.
A Luxury & Remote Hideaway
The masia’s position on the side of a rocky outcrop with stunning views is probably what most grabs the visitor this is one of the most remote hotels in Europe. But it is a destination in itself as the house (which is available as a hotel or as an exclusive use holiday rental) has all the facilities of a boutique hotel. The beds and and linen are of the highest standard and every room has incredible views and its own character. Above all Luis and Jenny, who run the property, will take care of you so that you feel that you are their personal guest.
